Homestyle Mexican Cooking, Made the Unica Way
Pillowy homemade flour tortillas, tender corn tortillas, and the birria, barbacoa, tortas and chilaquiles our neighbors have loved for years.
Our Story
A Southside Tradition, One Torta at a Time
La Unica Birotes got its start on Marton Street, and for years the neighborhood has kept coming back for the same reason: everything is made the way it should be. Our flour tortillas are pressed and cooked to order, pillowy soft and warm. Our corn tortillas are tender, never dry. The salsas, the menudo, the birria — all of it comes from recipes that don't cut corners.
Regulars know us for our tortas, flautas, barbacoa and chilaquiles, but we also keep something on the menu for the kids — our burgers have their own following. Whether you're stopping in for weekend menudo, a quick coffee that's smooth and never bitter, or a full plate of tacos, our seating is open and easygoing. It can get busy, especially on weekends, but the wait is part of the deal — and it's worth it.
We're a family-run kitchen on Goliad Rd, and we treat every table like it's one of our regulars. That's the Unica way.

“Delicious food on the Southside of San Antonio! The homemade flour tortillas were pillowy soft and the homemade corn tortillas were tender. The menudo was fresh and not salty. The coffee was on point and not bitter, and paired well with the delicious tacos and barbacoa! The restaurant is unassuming and you may have to wait for a table, but the food is worth the wait.”

“Everything was great, temperature, presentation, and taste of food. The portions are good size and on a good-sized plate to eat over. Waitress gave us plenty of napkins, table settings, and refilling our drinks as they got low. We will definitely be back to try more options off the menu.”

“Workers here are awesome! It was a far drive for me and when I called to see if they had Chicharrones and guac in a cup, they were willing to put aside some for me. Definitely made that long drive just for this and it was sooo worth it!! Awesome customer service and delicious food. Gracias”
